OUR STORY

In 2019, the idea for a specialty cinnamon bun business began to take shape. At the time, we were running a busy meal prep service (Pioneer's Plate) in the Okanagan, specializing in plant-based, 'farm-to-table' cuisine and baked goods. Our cinnamon buns quickly grew in popularity and we soon began supplying Nature's Fare as well as coffee shops and bistros throughout the Okanagan Valley.

In the summer of 2021, we began preparing plans to launch a new cinnamon bun venture under the name of Nice Buns Baking Co. At the same time, with the challenges brought on by the pandemic, and following the birth of our 5th child, we decided to place our plans on hold. After much deliberation, we made the decision to sell our meal prep service and relocate to Alberta to be closer to family.

After a long break to settle into our new surroundings and focus on our children, we are excited to launch Nice Buns Baking Co in our wonderful community of High River... We can't wait to bake for you!

MEET THE FOUNDERS

Hi, I’m Rebecca

Coffee enthusiast, baker, wife, and mom to five amazing children. 

My passion for all things culinary began at the age of 8, when my parents helped me start a neighborhood ‘muffin business’ to save money to buy my first flute. I’ll never forget my surprise when my mom brought out my hard earned money jar and explained that we would need to use some of the funds to buy more ingredients. My first lesson in business finance was a memorable one! 

As I approached young adulthood, I found myself surrounded by inspiring chefs and bakers while working in the food industry, giving me the opportunity explore new skills. 

In 2019, my husband and I founded Pioneer’s Plate - a ‘farm to table’ meal prep service in the Okanagan Valley. This is where my love for cinnamon buns really took off. 

After making the decision to sell our business and relocate to Alberta, the plan was always to open a cinnamon bun shop. We’re excited for what the future holds! 

When I’m not in the kitchen, you can find me playing the piano or enjoying the great outdoors with my family - or hiding from said family with a good book and hot (or not so hot) cup of coffee.

Hi, I’m Daniel

Proud father, blessed husband, music lover, and Rebecca’s professional taste tester for new bun flavours. 

My younger years were mainly spent in the skating rink. Years later, following my junior hockey days, I spent some time traveling and pursuing Biblical studies overseas before launching my woodworking and flooring business in 2007.


As a finishing carpenter with a love for all things wood, I eventually opened a furniture company in the Okanagan Valley specializing in farmhouse tables. This will forever be one of the highlights of my career.


Later I would go on to work for TELUS as a Service Technician, which I thoroughly enjoyed for 7 years. After re-locating to Alberta I eventually made the decision to leave TELUS in order to renovate our investment property and help my wife launch our cinnamon bun business.


When I’m not on the tools or serving pour over coffee at our bakery stand, you can find me enjoying time with our amazing kids or playing the guitar in my spare time.
